Cupids Celebrations - 400 Years

Our newest tour celebrates 400 years of Newfoundland history: enjoy a stay in the oceanside community of Cupids, which is hosting a summer-long celebration of its founding in 1610.

Located about an hour’s drive west of the provincial capital of St. John’s, Cupids today is a community of 792 inhabitants – though that number is sure to swell as hundreds congregate to celebrate the anniversary of the establishment of the first English speaking settlement in Canada.  A host of events are planned, from concerts to folk festivals, an Early Performing Arts festival, traditional dance performances, a story-telling contest, and more. History buffs can want to visit the picturesque nearby town of Brigus, home of the Arctic explorer Captain Bob Bartlett, who gained fame for enabling American Commander Robert Peary to make his dash to the North Pole in 1909.  And nature lovers will enjoy a day trip to Cape St. Mary’s Ecological Reserve, one of the province’s major seabird colonies, which is considered one of the most accessible places in the world to see over 60,000 nesting seabirds during the summer breeding season.
