Island Hop

Visit Newfoundland and Labrador's many islands. Travel across the province and experience the small communities that hug the coastline. Surrounded by the sea and swimming with character, history and scenery; discover the islands of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Bell Island, known as “The Belle of the Bay”, is located in Conception Bay, on the northern part of the Avalon Peninsula. The 20 minute ferry ride by itself is worth the trip, as you enjoy the spectacular scenery and fresh sea air. You may even see whales or sea birds while crossing the tickle.

As you travel across the province, scoot over to Change Islands. Known as the "Fishing Stage Capital of the World", Change Islands is rich in heritage buildings and contains approximately 200 stages and stores, most of which are still in use.

Just off the coast of Labrador is a near-shore island called Battle Harbour. Breathtaking ocean vistas and craggy rock outcrops provide postcard-perfect photo opportunities. The village of Battle Harbour is a living commemoration of the life and society created there by Newfoundlanders and Labradorians during the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

Visit Quirpon (pronounced kar-poon) where a thousand years ago, Icelandic Vikings rounded its shores for shelter at the first Viking settlement in North America at L'Anse aux Meadows. Experience the magic of the lighthouse on its cliff-top perch overlooking the Labrador Sea and “Iceberg Ally” – a highway for thousands of giant icebergs floating south from Greenland glaciers. Watch for Humpback whales and Orcas migrating north to feed in the teeming waters off Labrador.
